Holy Week 2027 runs from Thursday 25 to Easter Sunday, 28 March. In Lençóis Maranhenses it is the heart of the rainy season: the landscape turns greener, lagoons form between the dunes and the village of Atins is quiet.
What Atins is like in late March
March is one of the rainiest months of the year in Maranhão. Rain usually comes in showers, broken by sunshine, and it is the rain that fills the lagoons: at this time they are growing, and they are truly full from May and June. Temperatures stay between 26 and 32 °C.

What to do at Easter in Atins
- Lagoons of Canto do Atins: about 40 minutes by 4x4 with a guide, then a walk to the lagoons the rain has already formed.
- Preguiças River by speedboat: Vassouras, Mandacaru with its lighthouse, and Caburé, between river and sea.
- Sunrise on the dunes: morning light on white sand, back in time for breakfast.
- Beach and river mouth: long walks on the shallow beach at Atins.
- At the pousada: regional breakfast served when you like, stone pool, spa and rooftop. In the Buriti Private chalets, a private pool joined to the bedroom.

Getting here
Fly to São Luís, drive about four hours to Barreirinhas and, from there, go down the Preguiças River by speedboat, in about an hour, or by 4x4 across the sand, in about an hour and a half.
